Maison Marou: The Best Chocolate in Vietnam

If you’re a chocolate lover and have spent any amount of time in Vietnam, you’ve probably been underwhelmed by the chocolate options here. The choices in convenience stores are limited to M&Ms, Toblerone, and Kitkats. And when you do find quality chocolate bars, they are usually imported and exorbitantly expensive.

So I was downright ecstatic when a friend recommended that I check out Maison Marou. And after my first experience tasting their rich, heavenly chocolate, I went back every day for a week!

Vietnamese Chocolate: Mason Marou

Maison Marou has shops in both Saigon and Hanoi and if you’re craving chocolate it’s a must-visit. But they don’t just sell chocolate bars, they also offer a plethora of coffee and chocolate beverages, as well as a case full of decadent desserts!

The Ambiance

Maison Marou is both a cute coffee shop and a chocolate store. You can make it a quick stop to pick up a chocolate bar, or get a chili & cinnamon chocolate drink and linger for a while. It’s no secret that Maison Marou has the best chocolate in Vietnam so it can get really crowded and noisy and you may not get lucky enough to snag a table.

Luckily it’s easy enough to get drinks and desserts packaged for take-away. The desserts come carefully wrapped in branded packaging and make for a really lovely gift. But be sure to pick up something for yourself to enjoy as well!

The Menu

There is a large, central table at the Maison Marou in Saigon that is overflowing with various varieties of chocolate bars. There are usually a few available to sample as well. And along the wall are the rich, uniquely flavored truffles.

The coffee bar has both standard coffee drinks and creative chocolate concoctions like “Marou Egg Cream” and “Minty Marou”. They also offer a wide selection of teas and juices.

The dessert case is really the highlight of the entire cafe. On display are beautiful cheesecakes, mousses, eclairs, and macaroons decorated with intricate chocolate designs on top. We never leave the store without a brownie and a banana chocolate muffin in-hand.

The cocoa used in the chocolate products at Maison Marou is sourced from the Mekong Delta produced locally in Vietnam.

The Pricetag

Vietnam Chocolate: Mason Marou

As with all of the high-quality chocolate sold in Vietnam, Maison Marou is not cheap. The amazing desserts in the case are in the 115,000 – 150,000 VND range, and the cookies, brownies, and muffins are 60,000 VND. A latte will run you 75,000 VND while the drinking chocolate is more expensive at 90,000 – 100,000 per cup.

Chocolate bars and truffles range in price depending on the flavor and quality of the chocolate.

Our Recommendation

Best Chocolate in Vietnam: Mason Marou

We would recommend spending a few hours at Maison Marou to enjoy the ambiance and sample a few different treats. Bring your laptop, a book, or a good friend and stay awhile. Even when they’re busy, the friendly staff members will never make you feel rushed.

Start with one of the drinking chocolates and a fancy dessert from the case. And be sure to save room for a brownie (or get one to-go) – it’s our absolute favorite of all of the exquisite dessert offerings!
